Greetings and Peace

Welcome to the St. John Neumann family. I look forward to your participation as we build a parish community that makes present the Kingdom of God among us.

This is our Parish Ministry and Resource Directory, which includes a brief history of our Parish as well as some of the ministries and activities that are offered to help us celebrate together our gift of faith. For information, please call on those listed in the Parish Ministry Contacts at the end of this directory, or call the Church Office (704) 536-6520.

The people of St. John Neumann are committed to stewardship, the giving of ourselves through our time, talent and treasure. I ask you to prayerfully consider how you can help support the Parish. Please consider getting involved and truly becoming an active member of our family.  Our needs are many, and it is essential that all consider how the abilities God has given us can contribute to the life of the parish and to the wider community of faith here in Southeast Charlotte.

It is my hope that we will continue to develop a family spirit in the midst of our growing numbers. Please be assured that we will do all that we can to respond to you, as we work together to find new and creative ways to celebrate our faith.  Please know that my door is always open, and I am always interested in hearing your ideas and concerns.

I hope that you will use your church offering envelopes on a regular basis so that you can share your treasure for the work of the Church. It is your weekly contributions that allow us to continue to offer quality programs, especially for our children, and to develop new ways to respond to the ongoing needs of our growing Parish.

May the Lord continue to bless and keep you.

Devotedly Yours In Christ,

Father Patrick Hoare

.....As it appeared in print.....

Charlotte, N.C. / August 27, 1977...”The growing number of Catholics in the Charlotte area has again resulted in the creation of a new Parish from an area once served by another. Most Reverend Michael Begley revealed the establishment of St. John Neumann Parish on a 12-acre site at 8451 Idlewild Road.

An estimated 250 families to be served by the new Parish were formerly members of Our Lady of the Assumption on the Plaza at Independence.”

June 19, 2002 marked the 25th Anniversary of the canonization of John Nepomucene Neumann (1811-1860), Bishop of Philadelphia.  Saint John Neumann Catholic Church was established shortly after his canonization, with Msgr. Lawrence Newman as the founding pastor.  Our Parish serves approximately 1,400 families.

This committee will have a coordinating role to help commissions and ministries in the parish to secure the necessary volunteer support to carry out the pastoral plan of the parish.

Commission Mission Statements

©  Stewardship

The mission of the Stewardship Committee is to encourage our faith community to recognize that all life is a gift from God, and to give proportionately of their time, talent, and treasure.

G  Liturgy & Worship

The Worship Commission will help enhance the worshipping assembly in fulfilling the prayer life of Saint John Neumann Parish community. This commission will try to fulfill its goal by incorporating the ministries of altar servers, greeters, readers, ushers, music and Eucharistic ministers in all the celebrations of the liturgical life of the Church.

&Education & Formation

As Jesus commissioned His disciples to be the first teachers of the Church, the Saint John Neumann Education Commission seeks to continue this tradition by providing educational leadership for our parish community. Our mission is to build a faith-filled community based on the gospel message by word and action through a threefold ministry of: proclaiming and teaching the Word to give understanding, building community on the foundation of the Word, and serving the educational needs of all.

H Parish Life

The mission of the Community Life Commission is to make every parishioner feel that they are part of a church family where every effort is made to meet their spiritual, social and psychological needs.

V  Evangelization / Communication

Our mission is to follow Christ Jesus by practicing our faith with enthusiasm, inviting all to share their faith and to transform society. Through prayer and service we rely on God’s grace, Christ’s love and the Gift of the Holy Spirit to empower others to be disciples of Jesus Christ.

Community Ministries

The Saint John Neumann Service Commission works to identify community needs, to develop and implement community outreach programs. The commission encourages parishioners to participate.

Ecumenism

The Saint John Neumann Ecumenism Commission is a ‘work in progress.

1Buildings & Facilities

Stewardship

©     Stewardship is living a life of gratitude to God for His blessings by giving back. It is using our time, talent, and treasure to help do God’s work on Earth. We do that by participating in the activities of the Church.

Stewardship is based on the spiritual principles of the Old Testament and the teachings of Jesus. By practicing these principles, we deepen our relationship with the Lord. Where stewardship is implemented, the lives of both the givers and the receivers are changed.

Stewardship is a way of life. It is a way of thanking God for all of His blessings by returning to Him a portion of the time, talent, and financial resources given to us.   It is based on the individual’s need to give, not on the Church’s need to receive.

©©©©©©©©

The faith community at St. John Neumann Church is encouraged to embrace a life-style of Christian Stewardship. We have all been blessed with gifts. We invite you to share your gifts by reaching out to your family, your church and your community.

The following pages list St. John Neumann’s activities, ministries and organizations. Each group is organized alphabetically under the respective Commission.

©©©©©©©©

Stewardship Ministry Fair

Volunteers are needed for a short period of time to participate in planning and presenting the annual Ministry Fair. This is an opportunity for parish members to see what activities St. John Neumann has to offer so individuals can prayerfully discern and make an informed decision regarding participation in SJN's ministries.
