PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL UPDATE .... April  29, 2007

The Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) has been working on the goals we have set for the PPC year, which ends in  June. One primary goal was to meet with a Charlotte Diocesan representative in order to open on-going, two-way communication between the SJN leadership team and the Diocese and to seek guidance on resources for Parish Council member training.

On March 22, representatives from the Parish Council and Fr. Russ met with Msgr. Mauricio West, Charlotte Diocese Vicar General and Chancellor. This meeting was very productive and a very successful step in developing a closer relationship with the Diocese. The PPC plans to invite Bishop Jugis and other Diocesan representatives to upcoming SJN events and to schedule a future leadership team meeting with Msgr. West to further nurture this relationship. In addition, George Cobb, Diocesan Director of Planning and Research, will attend the May 14 PPC meeting to provide training and direction to the Council.

A second primary goal is to have another Town Hall type parish gathering. After much discussion, it was ultimately decided to hold this event in the Fall. This allows the PPC sufficient time to receive some Diocesan training and to learn from other parishes so that we can build a successful model for this gathering. The many upcoming Spring events and activities preclude the Council from devoting the appropriate time needed to make this a meaningful event now.

Plans are in process for a “Year End Wrap Up”/Open Forum to be held simultaneously with the June 11, 2007 PPC meeting. This meeting will provide an opportunity for the Pastoral and Finance Councils to reflect on the past year and to outline their plans for the year ahead. All are invited to attend.
